How to Tune Guitar by Ear with Reference Tones
Click a string button to hear its reference tone through your speakers. Then play the same string on your guitar. Listen for beating — a pulsing wavering sound that means the pitches are slightly off. Slowly turn the tuning peg until the beating slows and disappears. Always tune up to a note (from below) for better tuning stability.
Tuning Presets
Standard (EADGBe) — the most common tuning worldwide. Drop D (DADGBe) — lowers the 6th string to D for rock and metal. Open G (DGDGBd) — slide guitar favorite. Open D (DADf#Ad) — rich open major chord.
